After only two years, Silverado gets its first partial update. The front end brings smaller lights, a more aerodynamic bumper, and new upper and lower grilles, everything with much less chrome. Other interesting news regard the item list, which was increased with new technologies and support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Everything else remained unchanged, with only two exceptions: it’s still a secret whether Chevrolet has changed the truck’s rear as well, since it hasn’t appeared in official pictures yet. Besides that, the eight-speed automatic transmission had its availability increased.

After showing its brand new generation of big pick-ups and, some months later, its brand new generation of even bigger SUVs, now GM goes “biggest” and announces the reinvented heavy-duty line, once again exclusively for North America. These models have improved in several aspects not only to catch up with the car/truck world’s latest trends but, specially, to maintain the tough competition against Ford and RAM’s lines. After all, pick-up trucks are nothing but the best-selling automobile category of the United States for decades.

It’s nice to observe that each country has a very strong connection with a particular car category. The Europeans love hatchbacks, the Australians are crazy about sedan-based pickups, the Brazilians are very fond of sedans… and the North-Americans can’t resist a big, powerful pick-up truck. Their biggest competition is among the mid-sized ones, such as Ford F-150 and RAM 1500. While those needed only slight restyles, it was time for Silverado to receive a whole new generation. And what a great one it is!
