Due to the increasing need of cutting costs, most cars are created as parts of a “family” now, all of them coming from the same project. If a pick-up appears, for instance, it’s almost sure that the SUV is already concluded too, just waiting to be produced. What decides which other siblings will actually hit the streets is basically studying how successful the first ones managed to become. When it comes to Qoros, if the public receives its initial lineup with a third of the press’s enthusiasm, there will be a lot of brothers and sisters coming up.
Mercedes-Benz’s “A” family could be mentioned as a positive example of that. Since A-Class’s new generation received such great acceptance, it didn’t take long to be joined by a sedan and a crossover (CLA and GLA), both created in the very same project. The opposite fact, on the other hand, was the reason why Chevrolet Agile didn’t get to receive more than hatchback and pick-up bodies. Chery’s high-end division made its intentions clear some months ago, when only the sedan hit the streets after three concept cars were showed: producing the others (or not) would only depend on which fate this one would have. Considering that, what could be a better start than Qoros 3 becoming the best car crash-tested by EuroNCAP in the last year?
This will certainly make this family’s life much easier, because Qoros managed to avoid the terrible reputation that haunts Chinese cars regarding active safety. Besides, even better news is knowing that this was the only real problem with the 3 lineup. As you can see, there wasn’t too much taken off of the Cross Hybrid concept in order to create its production version – pretty much only the off-road accessories. This means the hatchback looks as good as the sedan, featuring the same well-balanced shapes, well-dimensioned elements and the overall feeling of discreet elegance, which is much better for a beginner than taking the risks of being extravagant. Apart from the typical rear, in this case 18-cm shorter, the hatchback differs from the sedan also at the front bumper.
The similarities return when you open the doors. There isn’t too much information about the interior yet, but it’s highly expected to be the same as the sedan’s. Calling the room fancy would be an exaggeration, but it does look very nice, with a combination of rectangular shapes in beige brown that gives an old-fashioned feeling – piano-black or too much chrome would give a sporty touch that Qoros doesn’t want their cars to have, at least by now. But it also repeats the sedan’s equipment offer, so there will be all the technology items seen at most modern cars. This hatchback will appear at the upcoming Geneva Auto Show, using a turbocharged 1.6L engine with 126 cv or 156 cv and paired with manual or six-speed, double-clutch automatic transmissions.
