While Colorado had several minor tweaks as well, GMC’s compact pickup stuck with the main novelty for the new year: a diesel engine. The turbocharged 2.8-liter delivers 181 hp of power and 369 lb-ft of torque, and composes a new option to the gasoline-burners 2.5 (200 hp) and 3.5 V6 (306 hp). It comes only with crew cab, but with RWD or AWD. Other additions are a balance shaft, ceramic grow plugs, cooled exhaust-gas recirculation, new springs and dampers designed to reduce vibrations even more, and the Apple CarPlay function to the IntelliLink infotainment system. When using the new engine, GMC Canyon starts at US$ 34,875.

GMC Sierra 2016
Right after Silverado, GMC’s light-duty pickup was updated itself. However, instead of a small facelift, Sierra had only some tweaks. The front fascia received LEDs for both the DRLs and the fog lights, and there’s a new 21” style for the wheels. Inside, the IntelliLink infotainment system received the Apple CarPlay function for phone-mirroring. There are also more equipments dedicated to safety, and the optional eight-speed automatic transmission is offered in more trim levels. With everything else unchanged, the new GMC Sierra will go on sale in North America in the fourth quarter of this year.
GMC Yukon 2016
Two years after receiving an all-new generation, GMC’s biggest SUVs get prepared for the next year by increasing the equipment list. The optional Enhanced Driver Alert package brings lane-keeping assist and auto high beams to Yukon’s previous “electronic safety” kit – optional for the SLE trim and standard for SLT and Denali – as well as improved towing sensors. The latter two also offer a White Frost Tricoat and standard foot-sensing tailgate, while all models also get capless refueling. There are also two new designs for the 22” wheels, increasing a list that was already at six.
GMC Terrain 2016
General Motors has managed to take its truck branch to a position which has been coveted by many other companies for decades. GMC is a typical luxury brand, whose current lineup is made essentially by taking Chevrolets and giving them tougher looks, fancier cabins and corresponding prices. So far, such description matches several other similar enterprises, but here’s the twist: it is actually successful. Besides, one of its best-selling models turns out to be Terrain, the one that dances the closest to the edge between those two brands. Here you’ll learn what did it receive to keep everything else as it is.

If GMC manages to convince people to buy luxury versions of heavy-duty trucks, which are supposed to respect their working purposes by being as objective as possible, why wouldn’t it try to seduce small pick-up buyers to do their occasional off-road getaways with a little more class? This year’s Detroit Auto Show featured the other part of General Motors’s attempt of ressurrecting compact pick-ups in the United States, after the decreasing sales made competitors like Dakota and Ranger vanish some years ago.

Like with any other big market, selling cars at North America requires respecting several idiosyncrasies. Besides the imperial system, the enormous number of potential clients and the huge preference for SUVs and pick-up trucks, they’ve been fond of the badge-engineering strategy for many decades, much before it became a global trend. But it’s easy to observe that they apply it in a different way of what’s seen elsewhere. This must be why the clients’ reaction has also been different, and why the publicity just “plays along”.
GMC Sierra 1500
If Silverado received a new generation, why wouldn’t Sierra? And since they’re twins, why one of them would have to wait more? GM has shown what could be named as good parenting skills, and gave the new generation to both pick-ups at the same time. Besides that, this mother has also realized that they’re no longer a pair of babies, so allowed them to get bigger differentiation – each one has a much more individual design than their previous generations. With all that in mind, how about meeting the second of these siblings?
